After the harvest of 2025, my wife, Sarah, and I collected dried plants, seed heads, and grasses from the garden and Bloomfield allotments. I took macro photographs of the plants and printed them using a variety of photographic and traditional methods. One of these methods is Tetra Pak printing, where a drawing of the dried plants is etched into the inside surface of the repurposed packaging before printing using ink on paper. Both the plants and printing plate are found objects. A very small amount of ink is used to produce the print, and the paper is made from recycled rag and cellulose, making this printing sustainable. Soya-based inks rather than oil-based can be used to further reduce the impact on the environment. You can find a guide to making your own Tetra Pak prints here. Other printing techniques used include etching into a compact disc, photo etching, cyanotype, and platinum/palladium printing. You can see other examples of these contact printing methods in the alternative photographic processes gallery. I have provided a description of how the prints are made there.
